OPC Client & Server

OPC (OLE for Process Control) has become a leading open-standard protocol for industrial applications.  Specialist communications drivers 'talk' to factory automation hardware are supplied, as OPC servers.  This allows SCADA applications to access shop-floor data as an OPC Client.

Hexatec software fully supports the OPC DA standard, both as a 'OPC Client' and 'OPC Server'.

OPC Client, the software can link to any OPC Server to access a very wide range of factory automation systems, including: PLC's, DCS, scanning I/O and other hardware.

OPC Server, this allows other software clients access to any data within the Hexatec Software; data tags, alarm conditions, calculated variables.

 

OPC Client Functionality

At the core of software is the ability to access OPC server data.  This includes both local and remote servers.

To make project creation as easy as possible, Saturn can browse any available OPC servers and automatically create internal data tags corresponding to the OPC items.

As it is not always possible to have servers installed, configured and running when first configuring a project.  So a Test-Server is supplied, which can be used to emulate the final OPC server, for design and test purposes.

 

OPC Server Functionality

As SCAN1000 includes a built-in OPC Server, internal data values may be accessed by other OPC client applications.  As well as normal I/O tags, this also includes many other data points within a project.

As the software fully supports OPC browsing, for most clients it becomes a simple process of selecting the data and accessing it! 

If required, external access can be restricted within a project.
